#164 When Katniss and Peeta found out Katniss was pregnant with a girl, they agreed not to name her after anyone who died in the war. They didn’t want to put that kind of burden on her shoulders. Peeta proposed they named her Dandelion, after the memory Katniss shared with him. She disagreed, saying it was too frilly and childish a name and that it wouldn’t fit her when she got older. Peeta argued it was lovely and symbolic, and when she learned why she was named that she would understand that love can always triumph over hate. He eventually said it was a quiet salute to Prim and Katniss herself since dandelions were flowers, and might even start a new tradition of naming the family’s daughters after the plants. Katniss finally gave in.
